About Our PIGS

Our piglets, like our other livestock, are born here on the farm from hogs that we have selected for superior mothering ability, meat production and breeding. We currently breed by artificial insemination from quality sires.

Nutrition

At Fruit Hill Farms we grind our own feed using wholesome grains and formulate different rations for each hog’s age and stage of growth. We DO NOT use routine antibiotics or hormones of any kind.

Freezer pork sales

We raise a limited amount of pigs annually for the freezer pork market direct to customers. Our hogs are sold for freezer meat by their live weight at time of sale. Generally a 300 lb hog is considered finished for market. The sale price includes delivery to our contracted butcher* and delivery of the finished meat product to the customer (within 30 miles). If interested in purchasing a freezer pig, please complete the form below or contact us at the number listed.

*We also offer the option to deliver the live animal to the butcher of your choice or to your home, within 40 miles, for a $25.00 fee. To have the animal delivered to your butcher, you must make arrangements with the butcher and contact us with a date 4 weeks before the delivery date. Be aware that some butchers are scheduling a year in advance.

Our freezer meat is processed by a local butcher to the customers specifications. Prices are not listed here as livestock prices fluctuate greatly from season to season and year to year. If interested in a whole or half pig, please complete the form below. We will contact you with availability along with further information and pricing. A cut sheet is required and can be completed as sent as soon as you reserve an animal with a deposit. The cut sheet must reach us before the animal is delivered to the packing house.

The standard for hog slaughter yield is a hot carcass hanging weight (HCHW) of 70% of the live weight. The butcher charges processing fees on the HCHW. Additional charges include: the dispatch fee, meat smoking/lb., and sausage casings. For a good explanation of the breakdown of a pork carcass and a diagram of pork cuts, click the links.
